Msconfig (unrecognized programs)
when I open msconfig I noticed there is an entry that reads: dumprep 0 - k and I've tried disabling it and it messes up the computer, also as of late Explorer has crashed numerous amonts and that's never happened, I've ran a disk check it's fine, scanned the completer hard drive for viruses it's clean, and scanned the computer with spyware doctor and zonealarm, any help or suggestions?
Windows XP SP2 if that helps
Thanks.

Dumprep is the program that prepares the error reports, after your PC's crashed... suppose if you wanted you could disable error reporting...
you could try post a hijack log and letting the experts in the spyware forum look at it.
follow these instructions http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=32403 and then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware section. (Not here please).

As brain_damage points out (I posted on top
)
dumprep 0 - k is a benign startup item.
Used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out. This will stop all dump logs i.e. error reporting.
This is generally added to the startup only after a memory dump. In what way does disabling it "mess up the computer"?
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

It was never in the startup menu when I installed windows and I've never seen it before except for now but I disabled it once and it wouldn't load my profile it said it was damaged so I had a default profile where no settings were mine
