    The Task Manager

I dont have any problems reagarding the Task Manager, but i would like to know a thing about it. There are many processes going on which i believe is slowing down my system. Heres the list of the processes:

Now some days ago, the number pf processes running were 15. Now they have increased to 21. I think its because of Norton Antivirus which i installed recently.

But are all these processes necessary? Can i shut down any of these?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Nisar.

    These 7 are all Norton's:

    symlcsvc.exe

    usrprmpt.exe

    npfmntor.exe

    ccevtmgr.exe

    ccsetmgr.exe

    ccapp.exe

    spbbcsvc.exe

You have the Anti-Virus plus the Firewall?

If so have you turned off the XP Firewall?

The Task Manager is not showing unusual usage (actually no usage). All other processes are basic XP functions.

Do you just notice a slower startup or does the machine actually seem slower when it's up and running?

Well, its a slower startup. I remember it first used to load in about 6-7 secs but now its taking approx 15 secs. That means the time has doubled.

The listed files indicate not only Norton AntiVirus but also Norton Internet Security Suite which includes their Firewall:

    Highlighted Features and Benefits
    Norton AntiVirus™
    Norton™ Personal Firewall
    Norton™ Privacy Control
    Norton AntiSpam™
    Norton™ Parental Control
This being known you should turn off the XP SP2 Firewall if it is not already.
It should be listed under Control Panel | Windows Firewall

Otherwise I am not surprised that all the Norton features would take 15 secs to load.

    That's some pretty heavy software.

Help me! I am going crazy. The Task Manager seems to have disappeared. Whenever i press Ctrl+Alt+Del, theres nothing showing up.

The system seems to be working perfectly fine. But the Task Manager does not make an apperance. What should i do?

    Start/Run/gpedit.msc

This solved my problem. Boy, didnt know one could even disable the Task Manager.
But i am still wondering, how could it probably have got disabled?

Anyways, thanks Jephree and Jaynee for your time. You guys rock!
