Hey everyone, this has been happening with my mums computer since new, but she doesnt use it enough to really have a problem, since ive moved home, ive tried everything and as a last resort decided the post on a help site
the errors im getting are:
AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0x71), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.
and:
AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0x70), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.
usually when im either multi tasking on IE or chatting on msn or gaming it all of a sudden reboots.
Im getting increasly fed up, so any help would be much apreciated.
Great forums btw
EDIT: another error ive just realised are these:
The Application Layer Gateway Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
and:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Application Layer Gateway Service service to connect.

Change this setting in order to get more specific errors:
rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart
Your first error appears to be benign. Perhaps try a BIOS upgrade.
"ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address" error message when you open the event viewer

Done both of those things already......

Does it restart anyway? With no STOP screen? Is SP2 installed?
You can also check for .dmp logs if you want:
If you want to try and analyze the XP errors:
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.
Then:
1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.
You also might run this hardware scan so we can see what's inside:
http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.php (requires IE).

Couldn't find any .dmp logs.
When it restarts it goes to the screen that shows the HP sign, and then boots up to the account screen
SP2 is installed.

Alright, this is weird, when i create the Boot disk with the updated BIOS on it, and get to the bit where u enter the command "biosupdt" it says its a bad command name, theres 2 options one is to look at all the BIOS updates and the other is to go ahead and install one, but when u press option 1, it says bad command name aswell, u can only press option 2. which re installs the older version, after it installs i follow the steps and save and exit, but i cant seem to boot from the floppy i created....which is weird, hope u can help, im gonna go have a shower cause this stupid aussie heat is to bad...cya in a few, hopefully u can have an answer..
