Help! WinExplorer Shuts Down
Hello Anyone, While trying to access any file, my computer, recycle bin, or a search windows explorer says it has encountered a problem and has to close. I can get to the files while using other programs ie:Word, Paintshop, but not using Explorer. Thanks

Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash. Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.
How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
Also this is possibly the result of a virus or malware. Do you scan? Run AdAware | Spybot? etc.
Any other issues? With the Task Manager? Start Menu? My Documents? etc.

There have been no problems with the Task Manager or Start Menu. I run AdAware.
Thanks

Try this:
In “Windows Explorer” go to “Tools-->Folder Options”, go to the tab “View” and check "Launch folder windows in a separate process".
-
Sorry, Can't get Windows Explorer to open. I get the same message as I do trying to access files.
-
Try start | Control Panel | Folder Options
-
This thing doesn't like me!!! I can't get into the Control Panel, My Computer, Recycle Bin, any file or do a search with Windows Explorer. I can however get to everything in the safe mode. Will that help?

Is worth a try. Can you do a System Restore? It sounds very virus like. Have you run scans recently?
I can look further into your errors but will take time. Here is a link that you can search yourself:

Yeah, I just scanned and did a restore, no luck. Nothng is showing a virus, but I believe your right, it does have the aroma. I'll check out this link and see if I can come up with anything. Thanks for the help, if you come up with something drop me a note.

If you have a retail version Microsoft XP CD you could try running sfc /scannow
This is the System File Checker that checks and replaces needed System Files.
start/run sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc & /scannow).
Wouldn't hurt to run a HijackThis log by the Pros over in that section:
Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
(Not in this section please).
