Two things: 1) my system 32 folder always appears ( WHY ) and how can I stop it from popping up. 2) my computer does not read any disk inserted into it anymore. it worked just fine until a week ago ( WHY )

First try:

Open the Device Manager Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

Expand (+) the DVD/CD drives line and locate your CD drive. Right click the line and uninstall. Then reboot the computer and XP will reinstall its drivers.

WHY?

Something apparently altered the registry. Any new software or hardware?

Do you have an Anti Virus and Firewall? Do you have SP2? Any other issues?
