    Another Xp Modem Mystery

Well, I find myself back in the rooms to ask for help in solving a modem problem, this is a good one--when I try to connect using the Conexant D850 V9x DFVc on my admin account, it goes directly to a stop error-
    Stop:0x0000008E (0xC0000092,0xF7A7FE90,0x8054FED4,0x00000000)

    HSF_DP,sys-
    Address F7AFE90
    Base at F79D6000
    Date Stamp3fb8d37d

Ok, I have researced, and I know this is the modem, the hsf gives that away, and this is the link the error reporting is giving me--Scratches Head (video when dialing)
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293078

Now, here is the interesting part-if I log off and log on to my extra admin account, which includes everything that I know is included in the other, because when I install, it is for all users, and the modem works every time, where the other, always blue screens...
To solve this, I re-formatted using Dban, and then a clean install of windows, and the problem still exists, and have minimal programs installed just for safety, with an identical computer with the same programs +, and it has no problems at all, am I missing a setting or something that the other admin account or computer has, this ones been nagging me for a couple of weeks now, and occasionally the blue screen message will vary a little, but this one has been the mainstay, and the event viewer says nothing this time; before the re-format, it seemed that the Windows One Care would crash at the same time, so I blamed that, hence the re-format, couldn't quite get rid of it all-Ok enough....
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, and also glad to see you up and running Jephree,(Blessings to you) read about your head on collision with windows LoL , and Blessings to Dan if he's out there...
Been working so much, and finally get some computer time, and it starts with a mystery, Love them windows LoL
    Quick Refresh
Xp Sp2--Intel CeleronD 2.4--Wd 80 gig--Extreme2 graphics--SB Live 24 bit internal (tried with & without)--512 ram with 10 to the video, and the Conexant D850 56k V.9x DFVc Modem--Think that's it, if not, will gladly add it.. And no Badwares detected (clean & fresh)LoL

    Thanks for your thoughts darrell

You quote the error: Stop:0x0000008E (0xC0000092)

    Not: STOP 0x000000EA

    HSF_DP.sys is your modem driver.

Curiously similar Dell modem issue here:
    Dell 4600 with a Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem
    http://hardware.mcse.ms/archive14-2005-11-251404.html

Just to clarify: this issue is only on the one account?

Have you installed the latest modem drivers?

Yes, only on one account, my main one, the other is just a backup-just in case.
That is what has me baffled, and it is the latest driver, and I am not using any programs that the other computer or account doesn't have access to, except the Sound Blaster, and pursued that avenue, and it still does it.
I know not every program is all user option, so maybe it is something that they both do not share, although they are on the other computer, and it works...
Think maybe, I some how just got a not so perfect install of Xp or something, I have installed Xp numerous times, and it seems different every time LoL
    Probably just me LoL
Was just looking, and did the install on 1/23/06, hoping to solve the modem problem, and that didn't happen, it worked twice, then back to the blue screen on my account, and fine as frog hair on the other, hate taking up alot of space, wait, better idea, here is a link to PC Pit stop results, and you can check software installed and anything else, that way we save space and do not have to download a file LoL
    Maybe you can see something...

Ps: just seen the number thing and it is the 8E, and I ran that pitstop on the other account too, and for some reason, the numbers run circles around my main account-Ie: the video here is 176 and on the other account it's over 200, Ok, now I am really wondering, what can be different between the two, darrell really scratches head-Hmmm

Try this (if you want to )

Assuming that you have the modem driver available on your hard drive or disk then delete the file HSF_DP.sys from the affected computer and reboot.

If this does not work out then you will need to reload the modem driver. Just seems worth a shot plus I saw one other example of this fixing a similar error.

Sorry, been busy, have tried everything-un-insttaling re-installing-deleting files, and even re-formating, and it still doesn't seem to work, only on one screen, so I guess I am going to have to refomat again and check after every update or install, which is what I already basically done, but had already put all the needed software just to hook up to the web safely, but am afraid it will still do it (then what), this one really has me confused...
Will keep trying first, for a little while anyways...
Wife, says:maybe its a bad modem, can that be possible, even though it works every time o n the other account....
Dell says it a driver issue, but not theirs, which is the one that I am using now, and also tried a download from the manufacture, no go....
    Kepp hte ideas comimg lol.

Came back checking, and realized that I did not tell you what the specifics of the deletion of the HSF_DP.sys was, my apologies it was Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Will keep trying in hopes that maybe it will do like search results wont close, and just go away after about dozen or so re-installs LoL.....
Thank You again for your always outstanding help here, and will check back with updates, and maybe a miraculous discovery of just what it is about that one account, think maybe I will try experimenting with more added acounts and see what happens, maybe I can find a compromise with it..LoL

Just this one account? Other accounts on this computer work OK? Are they all Admin accounts?

Is this Home or Pro? Perhaps that User has some restrictions?

Sorry if I'm repeating questions. Haven't checked back on the thread

No problem with that, I have been busy myself, so I find the time when it's available, and it is not really that time critical ( I know how busy you are from reading posts, like I say, don't know how you do it), was just planning on maybe using the fax capabilities in the future...
Anyway, it is Xp home Sp2, and it is the admin account that I created when I re-installed a couple of weeks ago, because I thought maybe that one of my many programs might be the problem, which it wasn't LoL....
The other account I created as a back up in case of corruption to my main account, and the one that works is the secondary that was created after the main......
I am thinking that maybe I should create a third account, test it, and if it works try using it for awhile, and see if I can't fool the gremlins LoL.....( Maybe it's my name on the account-LoL )

In Home you also have the built-in Administrator account. This is not intended to be used except in case of emergency. It is only seen and accessible via Safe Mode.

If that one user is corrupt and you want to preserve the data there are some tips here:

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile

I was aware of the other admin account, and also the dot net account, with limits, but you have a very intresting concept here, as I was not aware of this transfer method, and certainly seems worth a try, and of course, if it works, then it must be my name on the account LoL, because I sure can't figure out anything else, and since it seems to work fine on the other account, it's worth a roll..
Will try it and let you know how it works, and a big thanks for the info, I would of never thought it, you guys really are amazing, and if you fine people here at D-A-L write a book on tips, tricks and fixes, put me down for the first two copies....
Funny thing too, I was just telling Beth that I need to figure away to send something to the other account that works, so I could fax it, when I get to that point, and along you came with the answer..
    Truly the Sincerest Blessings
