not possible to get rid of Home
I want to deinstall my current version and format the HD but I am able to format not to de-install Home!
The booth sequence is ok!
Starting the computer without CD and only using Esc results in going to use the current Home
Starting the computer with the Home-CD results in Windows Setup asking the Installation Type
using New Installation results I think in installing the Prof programm next to Home what I do not want so I quit after Install now!
a restart with Prof in the drive and constantly clicking or only pushing Esc results in starting Home again
a restart with Prof in the drive and constantly clicking Esc results indeed in a Windows Setup but:
Changing the Home-CD with the Prof-CD after the question "To set up Windows XP now results in the heading "Windows XP Home Edition Setup and the question to put Home Ed. Pack 2 in
following that question I continue installing "a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing" but cannot get rid of the white bar with the text "C:WINDOWS "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition"
following I am able to make partitions and deleted al the partitions creating new ones with the Prof-CD in the drive
(I am suspicious that the 8 MB left in an unpartitonal space is the devil which I cannot delete)
after entering everything to format the text "insert XP-Home" appears again!
changing the CD into Home results, of course, in formatting and.....yes, there appears Home again!
What am I doing wrong or how can I kill Home???
I am fast that far to put a new HD in!
Not knowing very well what is going on I am quit angry about this user-unfriendly approach. One has not the controll over his computer but the software bought for a high price. Is not there any other software from another manufacturer or is it not possible to avoid this "market leader"?

To address your last question first: Linux.
We have a small section here with some info:

As to XP: You are trying to install Pro over Home: is this correct?
Just boot the Pro CD. No need to press Esc or anything untill the CD asks you.
Here is a good guide:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html#steps
Note 10b: If the hard drive or partition has a previous installation of XP you want to remove, choose to delete the partition by pressing "D". You will then be prompted to create a new partition in the empty space. This will remove all data from the deleted space.
