    Question KB886903 Windows Critical Update

    Hello,

I have never been able to download & install this Update from Windows Update since its release. I have tried to research this problem without much luck. I found lots of info, but am unsure how to exactly put it to use.

I went 1 step further & downloaded the Update from here: http://tinyurl.com/5p77n

However, when I try to install, I get this error message:
sl 38.tmp - common language runtime debugging services
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled
    Process id=xX374 (884), thread id=0X 370
ok to terminate cancel to debug
    ______________________________ I clicked cancel, then I get

    sl38./tmp - no debugger found

Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2. please check computer settings. corbg.exe!a 0x374 - click retry or cancel_________________ I clicked cancel.

I have tried this 3 times & the sl. tmp # changes, the process id & thread # changes, but its always the same error message. I suppose this is just some generic message, but I have no idea what it means.

I have read different "fixes" for this problem, but I am just not sure if they will work or will make something worse. I am not completely illiterate, however I don't understand this. Can anybody tell me what to do?

    Thanks

PS - My computer is working fine, so I haven't really worried about this "critical update", however, I would like to get it installed. Thanks

Does this update constantly appear in your Windows Updates?

    What "fixes" have you read?

    Anything new in these:

Yes constantly appears in my WU> Yes that is the most informative site I found. I was going to try to start> run> then click on the KB886903.exe file that I downloaded. BUT, this is what I was afraid to do. Not quite clear if that is what they are saying. AND I was not sure if I should do something else first. Like get rid of regestry key or download this dotnetfx.exe first. I think I am on the right path, just not sure about the order of things. Thanks
