    Unhappy Windows Xp Keeps Rebooting

    Hi:
I have a barebone with Soyo MB and AMD chip(1.5gz) running windows xp home.
My computer keeps rebooting to the screen that asks the reboot choices(ie: normal,
safe mode, etc); but when I try any of them it just reboots again to the same screen.
I tried using the repair option in the XP CD and did not help.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

hi there welcome to dal the online computer help forum

Windows Xp has a feature whereby the operating system will cause the computer to reboot whenever a critical error is detected. If your Windows XP computer is rebooting, perhaps randomly and quite frequently then you could try turning this feature off which will instead give you an error message. Once you have the error message it should help either you or one of the tech's on our forum help you

How to turn off Auto Reboot in XP

    Right click on My Computer

    Select Properties

Select the Advanced Tab->Startup & Recovery section

    Select the Settings button

    uncheck "Automatically restart" Apply".

This will give you a blue screen withthe error message rather than rebooting the computer.

    hope this helps

    WAO,
That was quick. I really appreciate it man.
The only thing is that I can not log on to Windows at all.
The screen just keeps reappearing even after I try all
the different options to boot up.
    Thanks

    Thanks.
A friend of mine told me to try that last week and it did not work.
I even removed the sound card and video card and it did not help.

I think it's my windows xp that is corrupted.
I formated a small 20g hard drive and installed windows xp in it and
so far is working fine; but I have a lot personal stuff on my 80g that I
    can not recover now.
    Thanks

wooah wait you can recover it but it is both costly and and not always the easiest thing to do but it can be done

when you installed the 20 gig drive did you use another copy of xp or the sane one

I used the same one; but had to call Microsoft to get a new Key #.
