It's a good drive at a good price.

    80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150

    Look around:

I suggest SATA for sure. You can go larger for not much more money if you think you need more than 80GB. The next step up would be from the 8MB Cache to 16MB but 8MB is pretty swift.

I only saw one bad about heat. Anything specific that you see?

Items like heat are very dependent on the case & fans as well.

I have a Western Digital myself:

Cons: I purchased 2 of these drives well over a year ago to set up in a raid envirnment. Since then I have gone through 5 of these drives and they just keep dying. One of my original drives that I purchas... More »
ed is still running with no problems, but the second of my original drives has been replaced by newegg 4 times now, and each time they seem to last a couple of months and then die. I will never again buy a hard drive from maxtor.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could give this product a 0 instead of a 1. It is completely unreliable and I would never recommend this drive to anyone, even if they were giving it away for free.

Cons: Cluster problems, it Crashed in two years, unable to repair... More »

Other Thoughts: Won't by this brand again

i think ill stop by a compusa and see what they think in the next week or so but yea those are some harsh comments

ok so i got the harddrive in and working im at the part in the little booklet where im making BIOS detect the hard dirve it says fine the auto-detect IDE HDD and i cant find it

well before i had changed to boot order so that the floppy drive was first do i went to change it back and the HDD was on there also. does this mean that BIOS is detecting the HDD?

    Sounds like you're getting there

SATA is the latest connection type. It just connects to different slots on the board than ATA.

If you set to Master then any additional drive on that channel should be set to slave.

If you use cable select then set everything to cable select and the cable selects the end Master and the middle slave.

Your BIOS should have been set to Auto-detect. This is default. If you see the drive listed then it is being detected.

    How's it going now?
