    ok well here we go

    Diagnostic Code:*******
This drive is failing, and must be replaced. if you do not have recent backup of the data, please do so now if possible

Write down the diagnostic code and contact Maxtor via the internet www.mastor.com

Online(RAM) Return Merchandise Authorization is availble 24 hours a day with a valid PowerMax diagnostic code.

Select the WORLDWIDE SUPPORT link from our how page.

    Press any key to continue

well that explains it so whats this diagnostic code?

It's Maxtor's code. Follow the links and instructions and hopefully they will send you a new hard drive.

Sorry I don't remember all the details but if you were not able to boot then a secondary drive would not have any effect.

If that is a Maxtor you can try PowerMax on it. Or I guess you have the other diagnostic?

The thing with PowerMax and Maxtor is if your error code relates to a Maxtor problem they will replace the drive. I am unsure of the policy of other manufacturers.

The test would be to change out the drives if you want and try the other by itself.

You have SATA which is cool! Nice board by the way!

Here is a very inexpensive yet nice Maxtor 80G SATA:

Maxtor itself lists a similar 100G for slightly more but it says out of stock:
