Unhappy No audio After Reinstalling Windows XP

I reinstalled Windows XP Home and subsequently have no audio except for the "sounds" when performing different functions. I have checked that everything in control panel is ok. I have a yellow quewtion mark in the Devices Manager window and the properties window fir the Multi Media Audio Controller tells me "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver. " However the Reinstall Driver instructions tell me to get the drivers from the Reinstallation CD but they are not there and not on any other disk that came with the computer. Don't show up when I select the Update of Download choices either. I went to the Microsoft Download site but there is nothing listed for the Multimedia Audio Controller. So what do I do to restore my audio?

You can download Everest from here (free) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Install and run it. You should find make and model of your sound card under computer summary/multimedia. Post back and we should be able to help you find the right drivers.

I clicked the web site you gave me. It opened but I don't see any way to "run" it as you instructed and the lists on it don't give me a clue as to the drivers I need.

Ooops. I figured it out and found something but I'm not sure if it is right. I downloaded it but still have no sound. Probably the wrong driver or it is not installed in the right place.

If you run the program and click summary, scroll down to where it says multimedia. It should say what you have like the picture below.

I seached for the driver for what the panel said I had and coiuld find one that contained only part of what was listed so downloaded that. The driver it downloaded was file name R54801which is an "Intel Mobile Chipset Driver." I installed it but it didn't help. I can't seem to identify and find the right driver from the help given so far for my Multimedia Audio Controller in my Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop computer.
    What next?
