Can anybody help with this. My daughter has forgotten the password on her laptop, uses windows xp. Tried the dog's name etc etc. When it turns on only one user is now shown, which is hers. Not sure if that was relevant!!

Okay, get hold of a WinXP install disc, anyone will do, insert it at the login screen, and you will gain instant adminstrative access (a WinXP help screen will pop up with all sorts of things you can do also). Use this to reset the password so your daughter can get back on.
Thank you so much, the only problem is, the laptop is a hewlett packard and they don't supply you with any discs the windows are pre-installed. You are supposed to make a recovery disk, but my daughter didn't do this. So a bit stuck now.
alright, does she admin rights?
Well, as I said you do need an XP disc, you could try borrowing one from a friend. You could also try going to microsoft's help site on another machine and downloading the recovery software, although I once had a bad experience with those discs and would suggest you try obtaining an XP disc first.
