administrator for msconfig
Hi, I want to restart my pc using msconfig with selective startup on. When I finish selecting what I want to start I get an "access denied error was obtained while trying to disconnect a service. You may need to log onto an administrator account to make these changes."
Well for some reason I don't have an administrator account to pick on the welcome screen. I only have 4 listed (all for my familly) all are labelled computer administrators. I guess I have to log onto the main admin account somehow but I don't know how to without the option being on the welcome screen.
p.s. I can right click a shortcut on the desktop and run a particular program as the main admin
Thanks for your time and help
Woody

who's computer is it?
if it's yours how come you dont have admin rights. can you not ask someone with admin rights to do the job for you?

It's my PC and under the user accounts folder it does say that I have administrator rights but I take it that I need the actual admintration account to do what I need to do and not one with just administration rights.
If I right click a program shortcut I can either run it as the main administrator by putting the password in, or I can keep it as my account. I have no idea why I can't see the main admin account on the welcome screen. but it must be on the system for me to be able to start a program with it.
Just to add: I have just been to explorer for something else and I noticed this;
If I expand documents and settings I can see:
Administrator
Administrator.WOODY-17NP****
All users
Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah being 3 other familly accounts
Now, I have found out from a running a program as administrator that I normally log on as
administrator.WOODY-17NP*****
That is the problem, I just don't know how to overcome it

Hi Woody. You can set specific permissions through the registry editor. Click start-run -
regedit then click on the + by My Computer and you will see a dropdown tree with about 5 subs. Single click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER (the folder, not the +) then click on Edit in the top menu and Permissions...then highlight Administrators... etc. This would be a good point at which to click on Help for the Registry Editor
The Registry Editor is not a place to have fun. Period. Think of it as your grandmother's kitchen and she has a weak heart or something like that.
hope this helps
