Using System Restore but PC freezes when it asks for the computer's name
Hi, I'm using this Restore CDs my PC came with from eMachines, and my eMachines model is D2685.
The problem is, when I start up my PC after being restored by Symantec Ghost, the Windows' Mini-Setup starts running. When I reach the step that says:
"What's your computer's name?"
Wether I click the Skip or Next button, my PC wont go any further, it isnt totally freezing because my mouse and the blue help circle are still functioning.
It doesn't display any notification of what is going on, and I've already left it turned on while its in that step a lot of time, about one or two hours already.
I've shut it off, turning it again, but still no good result!
Also, I've ran the Symantec Ghost restore utility again with my 3 Restore CDs, ran the Mini-Setup again, but it stills get stuck up in the same part!
Any help in here?
Thanks!

Did you ever resolve this problem? I just replaced a motherboard in an emachines and I am getting the same problem when trying to restore hard drive.
Thanks

I had the same problem with a friends system. I got it to work by getting ahold of a standard windows xp home installation disk, and running a repair installation with the standard disk after installing the emachines version. When its done installing it wont have the "What's your computers name?" part because the standard setup is different then the emachines version. Its kind of a clunky way to go, because it will ask for some files from the windows xp disk that it doesnt have, and you will have to skip them. Also with using this method, you will have to type the product key from the back of the case into the repair installation, which is normal, but you will have problems when you go to activate windows. It will not activate over the internet and you will have to call in to get the confirmation key. Other then that, it seems to work fine, and still has all the emachines software installed.
