    Crashing problems

Hi, i currently have a computer with the following specs.....

    a geforce 5200fx
    1gb ram
    Pt800cea motherboard
    3.2 ghz

My computer frequently just shuts off with no warning. it takes forever for my computer to start. my quicktime and video editign suties dont open, complaining of Type Engine problems. I run COD2 and other games and get like 8 fps. I dotn know what else to do than to go out and buy a new graphics card, motherboard and or reinstall windows

    Hey Dingo!

Well... I don't think that it is so bad that you will have to replace half of your PC!
First question is: Was everything working fine before and sudenly stopped or it's like that since the beginning?

If things were good before you can try Windows Restore to bring your system back to a previous date. Another thing is to make sure that all your hardware has the latest drivers running, because even the best video adapter will give you maximum 256 colours and 640x480 if no drivers are present ;] If drivers are allright then I would suggest reinstalling Windows!

Hey. thanks for the reply. All my drivers are fully installed and my windows has been reinstalled numerous times.....

I was thinking on getting a new graphics card anyway...

Its been like this from the beggining.

    Funny story

I knew something was up when i installed COD1, and i got about 33 fps. On my IBM t40 labtop i get 45. Thats with a 64mb integrated graphics card.

Randomly, my PC(problem creator) began to shut off. Then give me an error message saying windows has recovered from a serious error.

    Hey!

Yeah, I think that is a video adapter issue. You can try borrowing a video card from some of your friends and see if the computer is still restarting and if you are getting crappy fps. You can even buy one some store that has like 30-days return policy :] That would definatelly help us with determining the source of the problem.

    Good Luck!

    well, i'm back....

i'm really tired of windows crashing over and over on me. I spent to much money on this computer to let this happen to me.

I've heard this could be due to a faulty card...

I've got some pictures here if this helps at all.....

So it continues to crash with the new card?

Have you looked at your Event Viewer? Start/Run/ eventvwr

Check under System as well as Application for Errors as well as Information from either your graphics manufacturer (ATI?) or any listings from Dr. Watson or Save Dumps.

Also change this setting to get more detailed error messages:
rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

Finally you can read your full dump logs by following the following:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

Also what Firewall & Anti-Virus are you running? Do you have SP2?

i am running through a belkin wireless router so i personally do not have a firewall. I do have SP2.
Thank you for the information, i will post the text document back for you to help me!
    I really appreciate this.
