Do you have SP2 installed?
Here are some searches to browse:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...ll+9.0c&qt_g=1
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...ds/default.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...rectx/support/
http://support.microsoft.com/?pr=gms
i have sp2 installed
Did you browse those links? Here is another:

Do you have an XP SP2 CD? If so try running sfc /scannow from start/run.
You will be asked to insert your disk. If you installed SP2 as an update you may need to reinstall it.
dx3dx9.dll gets no hits in search engines which is very rare![]()
It is not an XP file.
someone has told me that my graphics card is not compatable with directx9.0c
do you think an upgrade would sort it?
thanks!!
Your card was manufactured prior to 9.0c but that wouldn't limit it. I see posts where 9200's are running 9.0c. Your card will not handle all the possibilities of 9.0c but it should accept it:
There are alot of issues covered in the links I've posted.DirectX 8.0 allowed Pixel Shader to be programmed with up to 12 instructions at a time. This limit was considered insufficient and soon DirectX was reviewed for the 8.1 version, to allow the use of 22 instructions at a time. Graphic chips based on this model include GeForce 3, GeForce 4 Ti, and Radeon 8500, Radeon 9000, Radeon 9100, Radeon 9200, and Radeon 9250.
To enhance the performance and the increase the quality of three-dimensional objects, DirectX 9.0 was launched supporting Shader 2.0, where Pixel Shader can use up to 96 instructions at a time. Several graphic chips use this model, as those form the GeForce FX series and the ones from the Radeon 9500 series and superior.
Shader 3.0 – nowadays present only in nVidia’s GeForce 6600 and 6800 series – permits the use of up to 65,535 instructions at a time.
Did you try the Microsoft download site?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Also 9.0c is built into SP2. As mentioned reinstalling SP2 might work:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
You might try the latest Catalyst drivers if you do not have them:
http://www.ati.com/products/catalyst/
If you go for this don't forget this step:
The Catalyst Uninstaller is an optional download. We recommend using this utility to uninstall any previously installed Catalyst drivers prior to installation.
An upgraded card might be worth it but I do not think that this is your problem with 9.0c. I have it on a card older than yours.
Thanks for all of your help
I have reinstalled windows completely and directx 9.0c is now working.
