Windows XP - Updates that don't Download.
I notice that a few people are having trouble with Windows Updates. So it's good (sort of) to know that I'm not alone.
My problem is that my machine just won't accept certain updates! Right now I've had the yellow shield icon showing for four or five days, and I've tried to get the update loaded several different ways, but no go. As I shut down the 'Downloading Updates' message appears, but next time I switch on the shield is back again. I've clicked to download while still running, and restarted the machine as well. Nope! That won't do the trick either. The Custom Download option is also a bomb. Anyone able to offer a clue? 'Cos I sure don't have one right now!
The update that I can't get is Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, dated Dec 2005.
KB890830.

You can save it from here http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows...ldownload.html then once it's downloaded you can run it on your machine.

Thanks for the link, Devil. After my first post I kept on exploring, and this is what I turned up.
When I clicked on the yellow shield it offered the update mentioned above. But when I went to the Automatic Updates link and checked my history it showed that I'd downloaded it at least a dozen times. There was an entirely different update listed there, Cumulative Security Blahblahblah KB905915. This wasn't showing up on the other screen. AND, it wasn't downloading due to an error on code 0xD0000018, which - wait for it - the Updates search couldn't identify. Brilliant.
I found the patch on the site you mentioned and that seems to have done the trick. I'll submit a report on this to Microsoft, but once again, DAL has come up with the goods.

Glad to help Paul, MS updates dont always get it right and that yellow shield is very annoying.
