Are you not able to complete that Add Hardware wizard?

Do you have a PCI sound card or is your audio on-board?

If you do not know run this scan & post it back:

    http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.php

As I understand it the Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver would only appear if your audio driver was not compatible with your system.

It might have been installed with a previous driver & was subsequently no longer needed.

I do see it associated alot with Realtek devices.

If you needed it it would appear in Windows Update.

That being said if your audio is on-board getting the ID of the computer & or motherboard would be your best bet.

Downloading the audio driver from their web site.

If you do not know you can run this scan:

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Post back what is listed under System Model as well as Main Circuit Board

Also you shouldn't be online without SP1 let alone SP2. Are you familiar with Windows Updates?

Being online without SP1 leaves you wide open to very old viruses

Running Windows Updates should be the first thing you do after a reinstall. Sorry for whatever but it is real important. It might have even resolved your audio issue.

    end of little rant

Anyway I found drivers for your motherboard. Seeing as Belarc lists your motherboard as the System Model your computer was probably custom built. So here are the drivers:

    Integrated Audio Driver [WDM3516B_CADENZA.EXE] (18962KB) 5.12.01.3516b 1/7/2003 Download
Integrated audio driver for Intel desktop boards using AC '97 processing with the Analog Devices (ADI) AD1885, AD1980, AD1981A or AD1981B codecs

OS:Windows* 2000, Windows* 98 SE, Windows* Me, Windows* XP Home Edition, Windows* XP Professional

    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

You might want to load the Service Pack first as it might resolve your issue as well as not interfering with future conflict.
