    Question xp pro reboots ramdomly

have clevo d620s laptop, last 4 months xp reboots ramdomly, with no error messages etc. mainly playing basic games like "gunner 2" and "rocketmaina" they are well within my pc limits. tried heating problems but no as my fans have been set on all the time, tried all possible suggestions in the treads relating to similiar rebooting problems. Now completly cross-eyed and do need some help please. as i have worked on this for some time maybe i missed so basic diagnotics suggestings. I tried microscope diagnotics v4.0 no problems with mem etc but did notice that under compare it showed base memory as 634k and cmos at 640k and noted as a mismatch, also on boot uo my screen shows 636k base memory, which i never noticed before.
I also tried memtest-86 v3.2 but the system did not complete testing and rebooted ramdomly same as with games. i tried this program several times but to no avail.
again please can someone help this poor limited knowledged computer person.

Have you turned off the auto restart? If not this may give you a specific error:

rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

MemTest not running is strange. I see that Micro-Scope Diagnostic only does Base Memory Testing: not RAM. Or am I mistaken?
    http://www.micro2000.com/microscope_suite/features.php

Here is Windows RAM test if you want to try it:
    http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Is this an old machine? Any previous problems? Any reboots during Text work or Internet browsing?

Posting Drivers & Manual just for the links:

    Also plenty of RAM sites:

Thanks, yes turned off auto restart a while back after reading other treads, laptop built dec 2002,, no problems during text/graphics ie abode photo shop or internet, got all lastest drivers/manuals from clevo, they where great help.
micro-scope you are correct, but just used the program to check why memtest rebooted as they are both dos/boot systems very close. memtest reboots on tests 4 51% completed and test 7 13% completed other test 1/2/3/5/6 ok.
will get other mem test and try.
any idea why cmos shows 636m and system shows 640mb whoukld this be a part of my problems? cheers

Rebooting overriding the no Auto-restart is almost always a hardware failure.

Have you checked your Event Viewer & or Dump logs?

Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.

    Dumps:
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

My opinion about the Base Memory is that that discrepancy is so minor that it is probably cosmetic e.g. my BIOS always counts my RAM @ 510 whereas my system says 512 etc. I do not think it is a problem.

well that was quite an exercise getting the file from micrsoft but done. i ran win mem tests for 2 hours no problems and no reboots (unlike memtest program) event viewer had x error always when laptop rebooted "source = service control manager" event id 7023, :the HID Input Service service terminated with the following error... the system cannot find the file specified. i checked this before and microsoft stated that it is to do with adding/removing a program via control panel? loaded debugging and have attached the wiz text file hope this will help.
ps do you want my laptop config? thanks

    HID Input Service

Human Interface Device Access [SP2 Terminology]
HID Input Service [Pre SP2 Terminology]

This service is by default disabled. Is yours on? Do you need it? If not disable it.
    start/run services.msc
    Or fix with the following:
    - Service: "Human Interface Device Access" - From a newsgroup post: "The following error will occur if any of the following three files are missing, namely: “hidserv.dll”, “mouhid.sys”, and “mouclass.sys”. Error description: “Could not start the Human Interface Device Access service on Local Computer. Error 126: the specified module could not be found”. To fix this problem extract “hidserv.dll”“, mouhid.sys” and “mouclass.sys” from the file “drivers.cab”, located on the Windows XP Setup CD to "<SystemRoot>\windows\system32\".
    1. Insert Windows XP Setup CD.
    2. Browse to <CDROM drive letter>:\i386\drivers.cab
    3. Double click the “drivers.cab” file. The compressed files in the “.cab” file will be listed.
    4. Copy the three files to “<SystemRoot>\windows\system32\”. Reboot the computer".
You only copied/pasted the very begining of that dump log. Make sure you copy ALL & repost. Thanks.

It's probably not anything that you are doing but the log wizard isn't running properly. It should only take a few seconds plus it is listing errors of itself.

Let us know if the machine keeps rebooting. Perhaps the service change was the issue.

ok i'll try the games now and let you know, the debug has been going for 20mins, and still just showing the last error, this program has been uninstalled and when i run registerfix there is no errors relating to this program. and the dir c:\program files\pdf2word v1.4 is not on hard drive.
    take care.
