well after diabling the hid as requested, tried the basic game gunner 2, and it seemed to last longer but it still rebooted as before. i checked the event viewer and no (x) or anything that lists any problem. i then checked the user.dmp and this was the same as before 22.2k and dated 28/11/2005. when i checked the startup and recovery, automatic restart no checked, complete dump, %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP. but on checking system no "memory.dmp" exits.
man do i have a weird system, first the basic memtest reboots, unable to complete log dump, is there anything else i can do to check, by the way another little problem i can not reset the system clock via windows, i can only do this via cmos.
thanks
Sorry as I am currently out of ideas. Your graphics are onboard so if they are the problem![]()

Do you ever get heat warnings? Do you ever feel extreem heat?Display

Again a dump would usually be indicated by a Blue Screen Dumping Memory.
A black-out followed by rebooting is generally hardware & outside of Windows.
The trouble here is that if the hardware in question is your video chip there isn't much that you can do.![]()
Maybe someone else will have a clue or some brain-storm may appear on the horizon.![]()
well after 2 days of checking etc, i loaded a couple of cpu monitirs and with both of them doing different things eg log filing/temp control etc. I ran most of the games that caused the rebooting and identified that on every time the system rebooted (still no blue screen etc) the temp on the cpu was 79c nothing over 79c and when under no rebooting. this is the closest i have to getting any idea what is going wrong.
now a couple of questions. (after surfing the net to now avail) what is the average max temp for a laptop cpu (some are saying about 70c and others say 120c)
also is there any way a laptop can be additionally cooled?
my hard drive is good and runs up to 56c is that an ok temp?
also as stated before my fans are on all the time
thanks
Laptop coolers are basically bottom mounted fans. There are many models:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/143An easy way to find out the maximum temperature your processor can support without burning out is referring to the table given at http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm. This table shows that Pentium 4 processors can operate up to 75º C (167º F) or slightly less, depending on the model, Athlon 64 can run up to 65º C or 70º C (149º F or 158º F), depending on the model, Athlon XP processors can run up to 85º C or 90º C (185º F or 194º F), also depending on their clock, and Sempron processors can run up to 90º C (194º F).

well just an update, thanks for the info on laptop cooling/coolers etc, i installed a couple of temp control programs the CPU cool program is great as it lets me control the system when the temp get to high it warns me and slows down all programs/games until the temp is back within my quidelines. i can play any of the games without the system rebooting randomly. this is great. I also purchased a laptop cooling pad.and this does help as it takes much longer to get to the high temps as before.
just a couple of questions. what would have cause this temp problem i do understand that after all your info it can be dust on cpu/fans, (which i have cleaned) faulty fans (which i have checked and are ok) faulty power supply (is there any way of maybe identifying this as all my experiences of taking my little laptop to any service centre here in thailand has been a disaster) or would there be another reason for this temp problem. sorry to ask but as your help has been great this is my best soucre of solving problems.
very best regards
