Hi - First time user here

I have been naive with my computer for the past 6 months and now I need it to be working properly all the time and I keep getting various problems.

Number 1 - My computer sometimes freezes on the shut down screen when I try to turn it off - then always runs a Disk check when I re boot????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Do I have a virus?
