    As I read this:
If you right click the CD/DVD R-RW (or the DVD ROM/CD-RW) and choose
properties, can you see a Recording tab? Also if you inserted a blank CD-R
in the CD-RW, can you right click some file and choose sendto that CD-RW
drive? If you cannot, this indicates the XP build-in CD-Burning feature
(DVD burning is not supported in XP originally) is somehow overwrite by
some third party application like the one you have mentioned.

The burning feature is implemented by lower filter driver and upper filter
driver on original CD-ROM drivers. If a third party application also wants
to take part in, they may replace the original filter driver installed by
Windows XP. That's probably why the problem occurs.

If you prefer to use the drag and drop style burning feature provided by
Windows XP, you may uninstall these third party burning software or upgrade
them to a latest version that may get the problem fixed.

If you decided to uninstall third party software and use the Windows XP
build-in burning feature, you may follow the steps below:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows XP. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

    1) First, please backup the registry
    a. Click the Start button, click Run, and type REGEDIT. Click OK.
    b. From the Registry menu, choose Export Registry File.
    c. In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the backup.
    d. In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as
    "Options" or "Backup."
    e. Click Save. The file is saved with a .reg extension.

    2) Navigate to the following key:

Click the Start button, click Run, and type REGEDIT. Click OK.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11*C
    E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This is the CD-ROM/DVD global class key. Delete the upper and lower filter
    entries.

    3) Then go into the device manager, and If your CD-ROMS are still listed
there, please remove them. Then reboot your computer. Get the CD-ROMs
    redetected.
It appears like a good try although it may affect your Nero etc.

You will notice that step 3) is the same as your last question:

In the Device Manager expand (+) DVD/CD-ROM Drives

Right clkick your device(s) & Uninstall

When you reboot XP will detect New Hardware & Install the proper drivers for XP.
