Angry Connecting to the internet, (or not).

Hi all, not sure if I should be here or internet issues.

I am operating: Windows XP Pro, ver 2002, srevice pack 2, Intell pentium III 797 MHz, 384Mb RAM. Internet explorer v6.

When my PC was first set up I could get on to the internet by clicking on "START", then at the top of the left hand column of the pop up menu I would click on "INTERNET". Then the pc would load into GOOGLE.

Now when I click on "INTERNET", the pc loads "INTERNET EXPLORER" but instead of loading "GOOGLE" it displays- "The page cannot be loaded". So, I have to go to "START" - "CONNECT TO" - "BT BROADBAND" - "DIAL", wait for connection, then "START" - "INTERNET". Now it loads into GOOGLE.

How can I get it to open into GOOGLE, like it used to?

I have looked everywhere that I can think of for somthing saying load into Google/default page or something. to no avail.

Please help, I am fedup of going through the palava explained.

    ATB Gary.

So this connection needs to dial up first, its not an always on one?
Have you checked in internet options/connection and make sure the box is ticked for 'always dial my default connection?
Also open control panel/network connections and make sure BT Broadband is your default connection.

    Thanks Tassie Devil,

The "Always dial my default connection" was not ticked. Problem solved.

I had no idea that you could be constently connected. In saying that, I woulden't feel that my PC, and data would be very safe with a constently open line.

Thank you very much for your help again Tassie.

Have a good christmas and new year.

    ATB Gary.

Glad I could help and thanks for the thanks. I'm always connected here but lock it with Zonealarm when I'm away from the computer.

Hope you also have a great Christmas.
