Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter. Click the Analyze button, and then click Defragment after the analyzing has been completed. However, if you click the Defragment button first, you'll be told your disk is being "analyzed," after which defragmenting will begin.

Another approach is to go to Start, My Computer, and right-click Local Disk C. Click Properties, Tools and you'll find buttons for Check Now and Defragment Now. Having done this, you may be told that these programs can't run without rebooting your computer, and asked if you'd like to run them the next time you restart.
    .

    PS

I hope you got another hamster of trey

    Hi

Thanks for replying, i tried to Defrag it and it came up with the following which i've attached, not sure what to try now. It has only started to bring up these messages since i installed PC Inspector which recovers deleted files. It wont bring up the help and support thing either now. I installed Inspector on my home pc and its done the same so if you could help with that too i've attached that error message as well, thanks so much for your help

    cheers

    hi

thanks for getting back to me, nearly every programme i run it comes up corrupt now!

i use a standalone pc and it's just me who uses it. nope i've only ever run safe mode in XP one and i cant remember how to get it up.

we have the windows firewall and i'm using Antivirxp as it is the only one i've found with hardly any clashes!

    cheers

    1. From the Windows Start menu, go to Turn off computer and click Restart.

    2. As the computer restarts, watch for a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. press F8 about once every second.

    3. Immediately press F8 before the progress bar reaches the right side of the screen.

    4. From the Windows Start-up menu, highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

    5. Wait for your desktop to appear, and then make the necessary repairs (for example, uninstall programs or devices).

    6. When the repairs are done, restart the computer, and allow it to boot normally.

    Alternate:

    1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

    2. In the Open field, type MSCONFIG and click Ok.

    3. On the BOOT.INI tab, check /SAFEBOOT.

    4. Click Restart when prompted.

once in safe mode try running defrag and your antivirus
