Red face Upgraded to XP...computer wont re-start!

    Hi,

I installed the upgrade of windows xp home edition (with SP2) onto my computer, which had windows ME. The upgrade went fine and activated and registered with Microsoft. But when the computer re-started, it started loading but before it reached the main windows desktop the screen went black with an error message saying something about DLL EPGINA user login interface not being able to load and to contact the system administrator, re-try re-start. Then it does the same everytime I click okay. I've tried switching the computer off manually and starting it but the same thing happens.

Any advise would be great as I have no idea what to do!

    thanks!

    Hi!

I ended up calling the system administrator this lunchtime. So only have one lifeline left as you get 2 enquiries before they charge about £45plus vat for each enquiry after that!

any how, in case anyone else has this problem....Basically i had to start the computer in safemode. I did this by re-starting the computer and as soon as it started loading pressing F8 continuously then selecting safe mode and windows xp with the cursor. This loaded up the desk top in safe mode. i was then directed to open the start menu and via 'run' and bring up a menu where there was a folder called GINA which I was told to delete. Well it worked and windows now starts! I dont know if it had anything to do with Norton anti-virus as the guy said I was need to uninstall it and then re-install it. Who knows? I'll add another reply with the directions of how to get to that folder if anyone would like to know as i have the details at home.....

    Okay...

    Once started in Safe mode......

    Go to start menu....

    Then 'Run'

    Type in REGEDIT

This brings up the registry editor

    Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    Find WinNT folder

Scroll through and find folder name GINA

Delete this and that should solve it!
