Exclamation Error c0000269 - Require Help!

I had recently updated my Windows XP Home Edition computer through the WindowsUpdate site.

The updates were installed successfully. When the computer re-booted after installation. It had a new Windows XP loading screen and then it displayed a blue screen with this error message:

c0000269 Illegal system DLL relocation. The system DLL kernel32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly.

The relocation occured because the DLL c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll occupied an address reserved for windows system DLL's.

Please help me re-solve this problem!

Are you able to boot into XP? If not how about Safe Mode?

First off try a System Restore to the point before the update.

No! I am unable to log-in to the Windows XP since the computer does not go further after displaying the blue screen.

I have tried all the available boot options. The computer does not go-into the Windows interface with any of the boot options!

If you have a retail version of Microsoft's XP I would suggest first trying the Recovery Console:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307654

To try to fix the boot:

Assuming that your XP is on C: then:

    Type:

    FIXMBR C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    FIXBOOT C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    BOOTCFG /rebuild

then enter. After that completes type:

    EXIT

    then reboot.

If in the process you are asked to run chkdsk say YES.

Also after the BOOTCFG /rebuild you will be prompted to:

    C:\Windows
    1. Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All):
    2. Enter Load Identifier: (Custom description for an operating system loading from the Boot menu)
    3. Enter Operating System Load Options: (that is: /fastdetect)

    Reply:
    1. Yes
    2. XP
    3. /fastdetect

If this fails you can run a Repair Install that will leave your data entact:

If you have an OEM version of XP consult your manual or manufacturer's web site for specific Recovery options.
