    Laptop Ad Hoc Network

I am trying to connect 2 Dell laptops together wirelessly.
I have setup the network and all seems to work, when the machine turn on they both show the network as being there with an excellent signal strength. I need to have a folder on the desktop on 1 laptop that is vsisble from the other. I made the master folder and turned the shard option on. On the other machine i tried to create a shortcut to the folder on the other laptop but the other computer is invisible - i have looked everywhere but can't find it in my network places.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

If you right click on the network icon in the tray and choose 'view available networks' what do you see? If its set up right you should see the name of the other computer there and have the choice to connect to it.
Otherwise open network connections, single click on the connection and choose change settings for this connection. You should see a window pop up where you can view the other comp as shown in the pic below. If not try adding it. Also check that your firewall is allowing the connection.

I see the same name on each of the laptops. Should each laptop have a different name? I am very confused now because i have already setup a similar network on another pair of identical Dell laptops and it worked

    Thanks

My desktop and the laptop both have the same network name showing. It usually takes about 3 goes to get mine to see his or vice versa. Some days the firewall decids to block everything even though the ip address of the network is allowed. Then pick up the cordless phone and it disappears again.

I would try disabling then re-enabling the wireless network in each and try them as close as possible together. I know the laptop is the most stubborn of my 2 and have even resorted to rebooting at times.
