hello every 1, in mew here and need help.
i have an old tiny laptop its a intel celeron 1000mhz cpu and 240mb ram, windows xp. sp2. my problem is, i used to be able to play games like quake3 and ghost recon on it, but now i cant play no games at all. i not played games for a while just using it for general use, ie internet browsing and work stuff. but i was round my m8s house playing red alert 2 and i went into town to purchase a copy today, i installed the game no problem, then i ran the game and i can hear the game running out the speakers but nothing on the screen, so i uninstalled and installed again and same thing. so i tried my my old games again, quake 3 and ghost recon and they wont start at all. i went into dxdiag, in the display tab i found this

i have no ideal what this is all about and i hope someone would be able to know my problem and tell me how i can get my games working again. i am fully protected against virus and spyware as i subscribe to mcafee security centre, with persanal firewall plus and anti spyware, also i do regular scans with spybot and ad aware, but they dont come up with anything, ive tried in safe mode and all sorts still no joy. ive not reformatted yet as im hoping there will be a solution without having to format, as i would have to update windows sp2 and everything else as my copy of windows xp is an old one, my laptop is old i think also, i bought it second hand about 2 years ago. in not exactly sure of the full name of the laptop i just know its tiny.
thanx for reading and i really hope someone would be kind enuf to help me.. thanx in advance..
What is listed in the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc
Under Display adapters? Any yellow "!"? Any listings under Other Devices?
This would appear to be a hardware problem & not Windows so you probably don't need to worry about formatting.
Also a Repair Install (if neccessary) retains your data.
But this looks more like your graphics hardware is not being detected.
Tiny is out of business so there's not much help there.
Anyway what's in the Device Manager?
did you get a graphics card driver cd with your computer? (it may be with other drivers called rescorces cd or something) if so, try re-installing that.
When you say you can't play games, do you mean they are slow or they don't appear on the screen?
does your desktop still show or do you get a black screen?

The Make and Model of the laptop would help. You can check the Manufacture's website for the latest and greatest display drivers. Mine was doing this same thing and I had to update my drivers. Also make sure you have the latest and greatest DirectX installed...

no the only cd i got with it was the windows xp installation cd, nothing else at all.
i still get the desktop come up fine. and the games start but i just get black screen, i can hear the music but cant see nothing at all![]()
i dont have a other devices bit on device manager??
ok, do you know the make+model of your graphics card?
and yes i did check and found out tiny has gone out of buisness which is a bummer. cus if it is a broken hardware then i guess it cant be fixed![]()
you could take it to your local computer shop, im sure they would replace hardware for you if it was broken or faulty (it's not free though)
