What type of XP CD do you have? If a full retail version try running sfc /scannow

go to start/run & type: sfc /scannow

Note the space between sfc & /scannow. You will be asked to insert your disk.

This will check & replace any needed system files.

ok ill go home and try that tonight, this is just baffling me, ive never ran across something like this before. i got a pretty good data recovery program but you have to pay for it. it did find my programs on my disk, it cost about 20$ or about 15quid.

ill keep you updated.
