Exclamation PC Freezing & Restarting (Plz Help!!!)

Alright I am experiencing some weird changes with my PC today. First off out of the blue my boot sector gets damaged and I had to go and create another one so i could boot my OS. After I did all of this for some reason my sound stopped working. Device Manager says all my codecs/drivers are working properly but when I click my speaker icon in the system tray It says I have no audio device installed. Now thats just the minor problem. They major one is I cant get into My Computer. I click the icon and the whole system freezes up. Therefore I can not access my C drive at all. I have a copy of Spyware Doctor that I have ran but it gets to 95% then my PC restarts. I absolutely have no idea what's going on. I need all the suggestions and help I can get because I have alot of important info on my PC and I do not want it to get formatted.

For the sound error I get the following:

Bad DirectSound driver: Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.
    Error Code: 88780078

The funny thing is the PC says all the drivers are working fine...

    Also...

I ran HijackThis and here is my log file...

Yes Ive tried both of those. Still no go. When I click on my computer it just has the flashlight searching then everything on the screen disappears for a few secs then comes back with nothing opened.

This command should open My Computer from Start/Run:

    EXPLORER.EXE /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

If you have a retail version of XP you can try running sfc /scannow

    http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

You should post your HijackThis log in the HijackThis section (it will not get read here):

    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/forumdisplay.php?f=8

Are you saying that you tried a Repair Install of XP? Doing so does not format & thus retains your data.

If you have a retail version of XP this is a good guide:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If your XP is OEM then refer to your manufacturer's manual for a non-destructive Recovery.

    .............................................

Not knowing what you did to create a boot sector nor its' possible effects I can just add the proceedure from the Recovery Console of repairing the boot sector.
Do not know if it will re-set any Windows settings:

If you cannot boot into Windows I would suggest first trying the Recovery Console:

    http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;EN-US;314058

To try to fix the boot:

Assuming that your XP is on C: then:

    Type:

    FIXMBR C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    FIXBOOT C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    BOOTCFG /rebuild

then enter. After that completes type:

    EXIT

    then reboot.

If in the process you are asked to run chkdsk say YES.

Also after the BOOTCFG /rebuild you will be prompted to:

    C:\Windows
    1. Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All):
    2. Enter Load Identifier: (Custom description for an operating system loading from the Boot menu)
    3. Enter Operating System Load Options: (that is: /fastdetect)

    Reply:
    1. Yes
    2. XP
    3. /fastdetect
