Hi all, I hope you can help.

My cd drive has just stopped reading for no reason and my cursor continually has a cd disk next to it.

I havetried uninstalling it, unplugging it and plugging it back in, checking the drivers are on for it.

Any ideas please would be fantastic.

have you tried a lens cleaner?

no but would a dirty lense keep my cursor acting like a cd is trying to be read even when there is not one in the machine?

From a brief search on the icon issue I see these possibilities:

1. Faulty drive (can you try this drive in another computer)?

2. Faulty cable (can you try another cable)?

3. Reinstall your chipset drivers (do you know your chipset/mobo ID)?

Is the drive lised as OK in the Device Manager? What about the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?
