error while installing operating system(windows XP)

    hi all,

i am using compaq armada M700 notebook.the internet connection didn't worked properly.i decided to format the laptop.
when i inserted the windows xp cd(which is not original,a copied cd) into it,it went to some level and a message appeared like this:
"file /i386/biosinfo.inf can not be loaded"
can you please let me know the problem ?
is it the problem with CD or CD-drive(mine is quite old) or the hard disk?

    regards and thanks in advance

    hi mate,
i tried to go to select the boot options but couldn't.
do you know how to go to boot options when compaq armada m700 laptop is switched on?
it is directly booting from windows cd(i think) and giving the error
"file /i386/biosinfo.inf can not be loaded"

any help in this is very much appreciated.

Are you using a retail XP CD that you purchased?

Or an OEM CD? If OEM:

OEM CDs will only work on the computer which it is sold with. The message
is telling you it is the wrong BIOS (motherboard).
You need a retail copy of XP to work on this computer.

    hi mate,

i inserted the xp cd into it.it give different errors each time

1.normally it says: "error loading operating system".when i pressed F12, it says "some PE 61 or PX 61 error, check cable"
sorry i didn't remember PE or PX.

2.some times it says press any key to boot from cd,when pressed it says checking hardware configuration.after sometime the laptop starts again OR says "file /i386/biosinfo.inf can not be loaded.press any key to exit setup" OR says some xxxx file is missing or it can't load xxxx some file.
this problem has been pestering me for the last 1 week.
i dont know whether my laptop is booting or not.how can i know whether it is booting or not.i dont know the command to go to hardware setting at the start up.any how i think it is set to boot my laptop from CD.thats why it says press any key to boot from CD.

it is problem with my hard disk or CD rom drive or my windows CD?
my cd rom drive it quite old and it gives some tik..tik..tikk sound .

    i am confused.
any help in this regard is very much appreciated.

regards and many thanks in advance

The general Compaq BIOS Setup key is F10. Does your CD Rom read disks in general?

Booting the XP CD should be all you need to do. If the current Operating System boots then your CD drive probably needs to be set prior in the boot order.

All your errors are still indicating an XP CD conflict.

Can you verify what XP CD you are using?

That laptop probably was shipped with Windows 2000? Therefore one would assume that you've purchased an XP Professional Upgrade CD? Is this correct? Or?
