    Wierd XP Dialup Problem

Hi.....I'm running XP home on a 18 month old 3.2, 1meg ram PC. All was well until Friday pm and then I found that the DSL connection had dropped but dial up said conected. I clicked to disconnect...nothing....it would not disconnect. So I pulled the line out and it still said connected and when i pluged it back in another programme on the network called the connection and it dialed, varified and connected.

So idecided to cancel the connection (click, disconnect)and same again....the dial up said still connected. So I pulled the line out again. This time it said disconnected after rebooting. One of the machines on our home networked called the dialup and dial up loged in but then the dialup icon said disconnected!

I had 8 hours of trying to fix it, reinstalling dsl modems and so on. I reinstalled that flat Alcatel modem and then it could not seem to see the dsl line and 2nd light was blinking....so i have ended up installing a modem on the laptop to keep us up and running.

Gateway PC is virus free, reg has been scanned and any problems fixed.

I feel XP's dial up has a problem and I cannot find a solution anywhere. A friend of mine says he had a similar problem and he had to run some comand but the silly ass cant remember what it was!

Basically windows dial up seems screwed

    HELP!!!! please.

Try going to internet options/connection and tick never dial my connection. Then go to start/run and type in ipconfig /release Once it confirms that type in ipconfig /renew and it should re-establish the ip settings.
