    Re: Window drags

I couldn't find anything on the internet about it either. I don't know if I was looking for the correct words or not but didn't see it at all. Yeah it happend on another computer. We just delt with it but when I got this computer I was amazed that it didn't happen so I knew something wasn't right with the other. I'll try the java, do i have to uninstall the java i have for this one before I install the other or do i leave it on or just read the instructions on the site?
I checked the refresh rate and there is only one setting and that is 60 hertz.
I don't have the discs anymore. At the store we had to switch out computers because there was a program clash with one of the programs they put on the puter and when we did that they had given me a different model. None of us thought about it at the time so I have the discs for the other computer and they have the discs for this one. So if I need to reinstall xp I'll have to go buy them.
i was just hoping there was a way to stop this from happening to another computer lol.

The latest Java is JRE 5.05. If you have an earlier 5.0 it should just update. If you have a 4.0 I would remove it first.

Sorry to hear about the disks.
If you have any computer for a few years at some point you will need to reinstall the Operating System. It is so important to have those disks.
Anyway; if I think of anything else I will add.

Perhaps you can call Sony. Toll free # anyway

um, I have several files with java as the name. I have one in C:\\Windows and one in C:\\Windows$NtServicPack Uninstal$\gdb7jdbz.zip and another C:\\Windows\java\Packages\GDB7JDBZ.Zip. do you know what one i'm looking for?

thanks, i'm really bummed about the disks. I didn't even realize I couldn't use them till I had a problem and thought I would have to recover. I think it was a time before when you were helping me. I had talked to someone at Sony about them and they told me I would have to buy them. I'll Never Ever make that mistake again.

Sounds like I may need to reinstall anyway but i'll give the java a try and if not i'll deal with it till I can reinstall. Thanks for you help jephree.

Your Java version will be listed under Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.

    J2SE Runtime Environment

    I would download this then:

    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Click the line that reads: Windows Users: To see if your browser supports automatic installation, please click here.

Or else use: Windows (Online Installation)

sorry it has taken so long to post back.

I installed java but it hasn't seemed to help much. I guess I'll have to reinstall. Thanks for your time and help. I do appreciate it.

    Hi jephree,

It occured to me today to feel the bottom of my computer screen. I have a laptop and I felt the base of the laptop right under the screen and its a little warm, nothing that would make me wonder. I then felt just above that, where the hinges start and that is fine but in the middle of the laptop screen is is really warm/hot. would a screen get so hot that the graphics would drag? If so can you recommend anything for me to do? I have an external fan under my laptop with two fans in it and then when it gets hot in the right hand corner I turn on a seperate external fan that doesn't plug into my laptop. If a screen gets too hot is there anything that can be done? I have a warranty till the 20th of this month i think but the store is about 7 hours away. Thanks for any help.

The back of the screen should be warm but not hot like in barely touchable.

Can you connect this laptop to an external monitor? That would be a good test.

I doubt that this is your problem but I was able to re-create your symptom today by having several websites open in one window.
Usually every site opens it's own window but for some reason today they all stacked up in one.
This resulted in total drag when trying to move that window.
I do know there is a setting under Tools | Internet Options | Advanced | Reuse windows when launching shortcuts
    This should be unchecked.

Anyway just thought I'd mention it.
