Window drags

Re: Window drags
i installed firefox just now and restarted. It did the same dragging. I opened firefox with and without the task manager and i opened IE and the task manager seperately and it still drags the same. I thought it could have been just the IE myself but i guess not :/
-
Just to verify:
With no browsers open windows such as the Task Manager move OK?
-
correct. they look like they move ok. Unless I have say two windows open and no browser.

You might try running check disk:
start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.
-
ok, did that. It went to fast to read everything before it went to the start up screen but the only thing i saw was 0 bad sectors. How do i know if it fixed anything that was wrong? It still drags though. maybe i just need a new computer lol.

Hi Jephree,
I thought I would scan again. I used adaware first and it came up with nothing. I tried trend micro and it didn't detect anything either. Then I then ran spybot. It said that congratulations blah blah blah and it also had an error with a link I had on my desktop. I changed the name and rescanned. This time it said I had newdot.net. Here is what I copied.
NDNuninstall6_22.exe
created march 31, 2004
modified april 12,2004
NDNuninstall6_38.exe
created november 16, 2004
modified november 16,2004
Program Directory C:\\Program Files\QuickSearch\ (empty folder)
Executable C:\\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_38.exe
Log File c:\debuglog.txt
User settings HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\new.net
User settings HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\new.net
I tried to have spybot fix it and actually tried twice but each time it just stopped working or was taking longer than it felt? I could move my cursor and bring things up but the little message that comes up and says it would go away once a save spot was made just stayed there and sorta became part of the program. (does that make sense?) I didn't know if this would cause problems with my browser dragging but i thought I would see if you knew? From what I read is its hard to get rid of so maybe its a good thing I wasn't able to fix it myself? Unless its not a threat at all since the other 2 didn't find it. Thanks alot for helping me I really do appreciate it. Any help would be great

Just to check this out post a HijackThis log in that section. After you get an all clear come back here.
Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
(Not in this section please).
BTW chkdsk/f fixes all found issues. That is what the /f option is. The only report is what you see on the progress screen.

Hi jephree,
I just finished up with Neal. I'm clean, I had some stuff in there but it didn't seem to fix the dragging. I noticed that the dragging is worse in safe mode. I can only describe it as when I move the window it leaves trails behind. My computer has never done this since I have gotten it and now it is. I had another computer before this and it did the same thing. It was fine for years and then started to leave trails. Since I posted here for this problem I noticed it does get worse when I have a photoshop program open or play on pogo (they use java i think is what its called) . Do you think it could be the java? Should I try sun java? (is that the name? lol) And if so, how would i go about that? Let me know if you need anymore information or if this is totally off base. Thanks for your time.
(also noticing that pages are taking a long time to launch and load. I have cable but feels like dial up. My husband and I are connected to the same line and his loads and launches fine. The site that is giving me problems is neopets. When you are there you can view the pages as flash or html. I just tried to do html and it "seems" to be going faster. And I have my homepage set to google and it takes forever to launch. That doesn't use java or flash right?) oy, sorry for so many questions.

I can find no precedent for this as a constant problem. I know what you mean as I have seen said behavior but only on a very temporary basis. Probably very high CPU usage by other programs.
Still searching Sony for ideas:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-...?mdl=PCGGRV680
This happened on another computer that you had?
The latest Java is here. Might as well try it:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Click the line that reads: Windows Users: To see if your browser supports automatic installation, please click here.
Also check your monitor refresh rate:
Start | Control Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced | Monitor
Make sure that the Hide modes... box is checked & then set the refresh to the highest possible.
This does not explain the sluggish internet tho.
Just as a worst case scenario are you prepared to reinstall XP?
The instructions are at that Sony site. Unless you have a hardware issue this should resolve all issues.
