How can I get rid of Search Companion?

When I try to open a folder it comes up with the search companion and doesn't show what's in the folder. I once found an article that told how to disable the search companion but I've recently had to reinstall windows and now I can't find where to do it. I just want to be able to double click a folder and have it show what's in it. This is infuriating. Can anyone help?

    Search Assistant - Disable

    Automated Edit:

    Disable Search Assistant (Line 15)

    Manual Edit:

    Start/Run/Regedit - Windows Explorer
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CabinetState. In the right pane, look for or create a string value called: Use Search Asst set the value to: no

    Start/Run/Regedit - Internet Explorer
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Same value: Use Search Asst and the same setting.

Restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.

See Line #18 - Search opens when double clicking a folder

or open regedit and navigate to:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
The data value should be “ none “.
    and/or
    Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going edit
