    "Setup cannot copy file: iastor.sys" Help!!!

    Okay, here goes..
    I am having serious trouble reinstalling windows. My system is:
    P4 3.8
    1gig ram
    MSI 925XE Neo board with Intel 925XE chipset
    2 Maxtor 250gig hard drives in RAID 0 (stripped) (i think)

    I seem to be missing vital files for the Intel 82801FR SATA RAID controller.
    Whats happens is; I run my recovery disk, press F6 to load the controller drivers and insert the floppy. I then choose the SCSI adaptor from the list (82801FR). It then seems to load the file 'iaStor.sys'. After then pressing enter, setup loads some more files then gives me the option to delete the existing partition and then select the unpartitioned space. I then choose to format the partition using NTFS. Then it formats and shows this info;

    c/partition 1 (new Raw) 478742 free space
    478742 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on iaStor (MBR)

    Once the formatting is finished i recieve the message;

    Set up cannot copy the file: iaStor.sys
    To skip press esc
    To quit press F3

    When i skip the file it says;
    Setup cannot copy the file: iaStor.inf
    When i skip this it says;
    Setup cannot copy the file: iaStor.cat

    If i continue the installation, the pc blue screens when windows boots up.

    What the hell is happening here?!? I have mutiple floppies from various sources containing these files (i think) but none of them work.

    These are the files i have on the floppies;

    iastor - system file - 457kb
    iaahci - security catalog - 8kb
    iaahci - setup information - 3kb
    iastor - security catalog - 8kb
    iastor - setup information - 3kb
    txtsetup.oem - OEM file
    license
    readme

    I think these are the files i need but they just wont copy. I hope to god that someone can help me with this because i am well and truely stuck. And, as i'm sure i've made obvious, i'm a complete newbie and already feel well out of my depth. All i want to do is play FEAR.....
    If anyone can help i'll be very grateful.

    have you tried a clean install? or is that what you were trying to do?
    also, what is the message at the top and the STOP error code, e.g STOP: 0x000006b
    and can you boot into safemode (press F8 on startup screen, as soon as computer is turned on)?

    Clean install (scrol down to where it says "Steps to Clean Install XP" in quite big letters)

    Set up cannot copy the file: iaStor.sys
    To skip press esc
    To quit press F3
    I dealt with this problem. Either your disks are missing these files, they are corrupted, your disks are corrupted or worse, your RAM is bad

    Make a CD and try.

    SOLUTION

    Here is a tested solution to the Intel F6 Storage Driver install error:

    "setup cannot copy the file: iastor.sys. To retry, press enter."

    =============

    After you create the Intel F6 driver disk, Copy (don't move) all files from the root of the floppy to a subfolder on the floppy as follows:

    A:/$OEM$/TEXTMODE/

    In other words, the driver files with be in the root directory A:\
    AND in a subfolder TEXTMODE contained within another folder called $OEM$

    This is what the floppy will look like now:

    Contents of (A:\)

    <$OEM$>
    iaahci.cat
    iaahci.inf
    iastor.cat
    iastor.inf
    iastor.sys
    readme.txt
    txtsetup.oem

    Contents of A:\$OEM$\TEXTMODE

    iaahci.cat
    iaahci.inf
    iastor.cat
    iastor.inf
    iastor.sys
    readme.txt
    txtsetup.oem

    And if that doesn't work, use nlite to integrate the drivers:

    Use this link to the Intel website to download the utility with the latest iaStor.sys drivers and the accompanying files needed for the XP setup process. Copy them to the root of a floppy disk and you should be good to go. At the beginning of the Windows XP setup you will be prompted to hit F6 to install RAID drivers. Be sure to do this or you will NOT be given the opportunity later to use the floppy disk. When prompted later in the installation to specify additional drivers, hit "S" with your floppy already in the drive. Choose the appropriate driver or opt for the one highlighted. You should now be able to complete the setup.

    Intrepid, wanted to thank you for your help. Thanks a ton! Putting the files exactly as you described above did the trick. I still slipstreamed using nLite for later, but danged if I couldn't find a DVD to copy to at 10PM last night.

    Many thanks,
