i am running windows xp and when i connect new hardware via the usb ports i get the found new hardware message but windows doesnt install the equipment its like windows doesnt have the drivers.
can any one help

Sounds exactly like windows doesn't have the drivers or the software to support it. What kind of hardware is it ? Most manufacturers have driver downloads on their website. You may also have to download the software for it, if its a scanner or such. You can also use the XP troubleshooting, but is not often helpful.
