Hi all.
Since my last windows auto update, I get a "LOG ON TO WINDOWS" window, asking for my password every time I switch my PC on.
How can I start my PC without this window appearing every time. Like I used to?

click start>control panel>user accounts, click on your name and click remove password, if this doesnt work, you could try a sytem restore to before you had this problem and then try re-installing the update
Hi madmilejt12.
Thanks for such a swift reply.
I went into "user accounts" and not only was my name their, but the name:- "ASP.NET Machine A..." Limited account, Password protected.
Is that supposed to be there?
Under my name there was no password to remove. He says, slumpping back into his chair, looking at the screen waiting for a mirical.
So any ideas chaps.

nope, that is not supposed to be there (unless you set it up yourself) try deleting it and see if that helps.
does this "ASP.NET Machine A..." come up on the welcome screen? or is it just your name?
Hi Mike.
It's the first time I have ever seen it.
I am going now to delete it, then reboot.
Will let you know what happens.
Back in mo.

Hi, I'm back.
I have deleted that account whick is now a closed guest account.
That darned password box is still there although there is no password.
Someone told me how to get rid of this before, but i can't for the life of me remember how. Mind you that might have been on win 2000.
Thanks for all your help, it's much appreceated.

Hi Gary
you could try a system restore:
Use System Restore to undo changes you’ve made to your computer
Before you open the System Restore console, you may want to save your work and close all programs since System Restore requires you to restart your computer.
There are two ways to access System Restore – through Help and Support or through your All Programs folder.
Through Help and Support:
1.
Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
2.
Under Pick a Task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
3.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.
Through the All Programs menu:
1.
Click Start.
2.
Point to All Programs.
3.
Point to Accessories.
4.
Point to System Tools.
5.
Click System Restore.
6.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.
Creating a restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes to your computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable. If something goes wrong, you select the restore point you just created and Windows XP undoes any system changes made since that time.
Thanks Mike, I will give it a go tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
Gary.
ok, hope it works
oh and remember to set the restore point to BEFORE this problem started
As to the password screen:
Start, run, type in: control userpasswords2 & hit enter.
Uncheck: users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
As to ASP.NET:
What is the ASP.NET Machine Account?
