Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help? I am helping out a fried who has recently upgraded to AOL Broadband service and I got them working fine on the standard usb modem etc.
They now wish to connect to more than one computer so I suggested that they go wireless and get a couple if Wireless PCI cards and an all in one ASDL Modem Router jobby(netgear).
I have installed the cards in the machines and they seem to work fine, I have got the Router on etc and can reach the router from Internet Explorer by tapping in it's IP. So we can assume that the wireless connection is working correctly.
my problem concerns getting the router to make its internal Model to connect to the net, I follow the setup adding in the username and password etc, and going with the default "dynamically assign IP" etc and click test but to no avail.
Am I missing out any steps? like do I need to install the modem onto the machine, by hardwiring it (Cat 5) to the PC or are there other steps I have likely missed. General setup etc.
I have done this before with a non wireless Cable modem setup and it worked fine, so i wondered whether being on ASDL involves different steps.
Cheers in Advance

sorry for all the questions but here goes....
what is your setup? have you got a wireless broadband modem/router and a wireless card in each pc?
have you installed hardware drivers?
did you run the xp wireless network setup wizzard (found in control panel, you may need to click "switch to classic view"
what version of aol broadband is it (i.e silver, platinum, gold?)
have you got it to work on any computer?
Ok setup is... a Netgear all in one wireless ASDL modem and Router.Originally Posted by madmikejt12

Nope I didn't run the wireless setup wizard - just the software with the netgear wireless cards. It recognises the router and I can get to the Router by tapping in the ip into the browser. So I have assumed that the wireless part of it is working.
AOL version is Platinum
I have only got it to work with the standard modem (USB) not this one.
I believe the problem lies in getting the modem to connect. Just wondering what I might have missed. (I have installed no drivers for the router/modem. But I guess i don't have to ???
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

try re-installing the modem drivers (not the aol one, the one you are going to use) and see if that works.
Can you connect on any of the computers?
