    strange problem (freezing&...)

Hi guys, hope anyone can help me again, I just reinstalled windows (again!!) cause problems started to add up again.. it started two days ago, with internet and textfiles suddenly doing stuff like this:

    pic1

    pic2

I absolutly have no idea where to start looking for the problem I have no idea what this could be dued to, everything is just messed up then, all the webpages and also other programs involving text.. it only goes away with rebooting, and sometimes comes back, all of the sudden, with no obvious reason

Now, a few days later, internet started to get really annoying, the browser often froze and closed itself when being opened. Then it really got out of hand and got extremely slow at start up again and didnt work fine. so I reinstalled windows, I dont have any virusses (i think, mc affee didnt alert anything anyway, i do a scan every two days) I have zonealarm firewalls and I ran a CCleaner, S&D, ad-aware and ewido.. Now I hope it wont start doing this again, but I rather prevent worse thing to happen, so Im asking if anybody knows whats going on and if I could do anything else to prevent disasters!!

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appriciated!
    greetings

In general all those issues are usually symptomatic of a virus.

Do you have SP2 & all subsequent Critical Updates?

The text issue by itself could be a damaged font. If that were the only issue:

Try a System Restore to just before the problem occurred. If that doesn't work, then you can put the XP cd in the drive, go to Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Note there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow". This will replace any damaged system files.

Also just a long shot could be an ill graphics card.

    thank you for your reply

the scannow /sfc I know, but I just performed a clean windows install..

like I said, my virusscan mc affee does a scan every two days, and it didnt find anything special :S but im gonna do a panda soft scan anyway..

a damaged font? how can it be that it only did that all of the sudden and dissapeared when rebooting then? :s

I did had the sp2 and updates, now I have to get them back as I reinstalled windows

anyway, i hope its nothing hardware... there are no yellow marks in the managing the peripherics...

I got a blue screen today, I quickly made a picture with my digi cam, cause it was "emptying the memory" or something???? doesnt sound very reassuring!!!!! (i know its in french)(as you can see if you click here) (had this before) and appearently its because of the card that makes it possible to get wireless internet.. my computer never shuts down without showing this screen (click),but it's never been any different, and everything works fine with internet so I dont know why it keeps doing this.. the card is working,I had one before this one, and it was broken or something, but this is one im using over two years, and dont have problems with (i cant 'secure' my connection, but i can acces internet just fine) :S anyone knows why this happens?? I cant go buy another one, it works fine! i just dont know why it acts up with my system??

Blue Screen Stops can sometimes just be isolated incidents. Let us know if they repeat.

As you note that was a driver error from airplus.sys

If you wish to freeze these screens you can change this setting:

rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

Also if you want to view the detailed dump you can follow these steps:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

You should install at least SP1 before going online. Having SP2 on disk is what I recommend.

At this point I would also recommend posting a HijackThis Log in that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).

    thank you!!

I did everything (exept for the thing at startup as im not sure what's the use for me in it..)

I have got sp2 now installed back, and the other updates, so that should be ok.

I will post a hijack log too (already done that before so I know how it goes

as for the debuglog, I made it from the MEMORY.dmp i hope that is correct?

    greetings!

That is the log we want but you did not get a complete copy. You only copied the intro. The log itself is quite long. Perhaps you didn't scroll the whole window? Or try pressing Ctrl A | Ctrl C | Ctrl V (select all | copy | paste)

The re-start option just gives you a chance to review the blue screen before restarting.

    OK ... that's it.

Once again this could be an isolated incident. If the same error persists I would advise tracing the driver with pstat.

That appears to be the dump created by the blue screen you posted.

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1) airplus.sys | airplus+4b7f

    Calling this address: f92f6b7f

pstat can tell you what driver is loaded at what address.

This tool is available from your XP CD. It is not installed by default.
If you choose to install it the instructions follow.
    After install:
Just type pstat in the command prompt opened via the WST program listed in All Programs.
The bottom section will list drivers and their memory address. Match your param 4 (f92f6b7f) on this list.

    To install Windows Support Tools

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

    1.
Insert the Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive.

    2.
Click No if you are prompted to reinstall Windows.

    3.
When the Welcome screen appears, click Browse this CD.

    4.
    Go to the \Support\Tools folder.

For complete Setup information, refer to the Sreadme.doc file available in this folder.

    5.
    Double-click Setup.exe.

    6.
Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

    Warning

    • Certain Support Tools, if used improperly, might cause your computer to stop functioning. It is recommended that only experienced users install and use Support Tools.

    Note

    • The Support Tools and the Support Tools Help are in English only.

    • The Setup program installs all the Support Tools files on your hard disk and requires a maximum of 14 megabytes (MB) of free space.

    • Setup creates a Windows Support Tools folder within the Programs folder on the Start menu. For information about individual tools, click Tools Help. Tools with Windows interfaces can be selected from the Tools menu.
