I originally had Win2000 Pro and Win2000 Sever. I upgraded the Win2000 Pro to XP Pro. Ever since that, My cd rom isnt working!!
It seems to work on occasionally! It doesn't seem to detect that theres a cd in the drive (someimes). Takes alot of waiting anf refreshing to finally get in. Once it shut my system down. The<re was a physical memory dump and something abt ntoskrnl.exe. Is that a bad thing. The mic isn't working either! Its a Lap Top computer. Mic built in. Discovered that today! Wonder what else isn't working!!
This is happening when I'm in either of the OS. What's wrong here??
Another thing is that i seem to be low on virtual memory as well. Installing xp causing all of this?

What is the / make / model / # / of the laptop?
Did you run an XP upgrade scan before upgrading?
You can check the CD drive in the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc
If you want to trace the memory dump then follow the following:
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.
Then:
1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

According to that link you have 256MB RAM which is a minimum requirement of a well running XP.
512MB is recommended.
Don't know why you have a multi-boot with Win2000 Sever but that might also cause issues. Unless you have a need for Win2000 Sever I would reinstall XP as a stand alone OS on a single partition.
As to the CDrom:
Did you check the Device Manager?
Also have you checked your auto-start settings?
Right click the CD drive under My Computer then click Properties/AutoPlay

actually i got the computer with the mutil boot! >> i'll try to add ram in the future!

Here is a good compatible RAM scan for the future:

My only other recomendation would be to do a Clean Install of XP eliminating the 2K Server.
This is a good guide: http://michaelstevenstech.com/index.html
If you are only concerned with the CDrom then:
Did you check the Device Manager?
Also have you checked your auto-start settings?
Right click the CD drive under My Computer then click Properties/AutoPlay
Also you can uninstall it from the Device Manager & then reboot.
Right click & choose Uninstall.
XP should find it anew & do its' thing.
