When I try and open an image using windows explorer or open a folder within windows explorer that has a thumbnail image Windows Explorer crashes. Any ideas other than re-installing the O/S??

Do you receive any error message? If so what exactly is it?
If you haven't noticed error messages look here:
View your Error Log via:
[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log
Some general ideas in this search:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...sh&qt_s=Search
The error report I get is the standard 'Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' when I look at the details then I get '
C:\DOCUME~1\Terry\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER08d7.dir00\expl orer.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Terry\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER08d7.dir00\appc ompat.txt
when I look at the technical information i get 'EventType : InPageError P1 : c000009c P2 : 00000003 ' I hope this helps

No I've tried that and no difference. I don't think it's a problem with the file because if I use another programme such as 'FotoStation' all works ok until I try and find a file/image not listed within FotoStation using the Browser to search for the file then FotoStation crashes. However if I drag and drop an image file within Windows Explorer into one of the FotoStation folders I'm able to view the images within FotoStation without any problems. Hence the reason I think the problem is within Windows Explorer and how it handles images not the image or file itself.

I find different triggers & crash behaviors but many bring up this page:

Also see if you have any dump logs related to such a crash.
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.
Then:
1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.
