    Deleted Music

Have accidentally deleted my music folder, with quite a lot of music files in it. Was trying to clean up the cpu and somehow managed to do this. Every now and again i have been also running ccleaner, is there anyway of recovering these files or is it too late. Thanks for any help.

Have you checked the Recycle Bin? You can find the Recycle Bin either on the desktop or towards the bottom of the tree in Windows Explorer. Assuming that CCleaner hasn't automatically emptied the Recycle Bin for you, then you should be able to select the files or folders in the Recycle Bin, right-click on them and choose 'Restore' from the menu to put them back where they used to be

Let us know if that helps

In that case, step 1 is to STOP using the PC! File recovery software is available that can try to restore files from your hard disk even if they've been emptied from the Recycle Bin and would appear to be completely lost. However, Windows has now marked those areas of the hard disk (that the music files are occupying) as "free" and so it will start to overwrite your old deleted files with new data, which means that they really are permanently lost. The more you use the PC, the more of those "free" areas of the hard disk will get new data written onto them .... and the less you'll be able to recover with file recovery software.

Step 2 is to get yourself some file recovery software such as Executive Software's Undelete (www.undelete.com). This is the same company that makes the highly-acclaimed Diskeeper software.

Step 3 is to run Undelete (or a similar file recovery program) and see how much it can get back. It will try its best but there's no promises!

Alternatively, if the files are REALLY important to you, you could send the hard disk off to a data recovery specialist company. They will have a higher success rate of how much they can recover. However, with charges typically from about £500 ($800 US) upwards, it would have to be some pretty special music! If you are going to send it to a data specialist, do NOT run file recovery software first as it may make changes to your hard disk structure that mean the data recovery specialist cannot get much back at all.

    Hope that helps

Thanks for all help given. I do have a data recovery cd that i have tried to use but i am unsure as to wether or not it recovers audio files, is also a complicated programme. Will try the one you have mentioned this afternoon, Thanks again for all help......
