I may need to completely remove my soundcard driver from xp so i can install a new card and drivers. ive heard there are critical issues if not done right. can this be done or would you recommend a re install.

The new card should have installation instructions.

You can remove the old driver by using the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc
Right click the device & uninstall. It is also probably a good idea to disable the onboard device.
This may also need to be done in the BIOS depending on your board.

There should be no need to re-install XP.
