    The HP logo screen has probably set itself to cover the BIOS POST.

    There is a setting in the BIOS Setup to show either the BIOS POST or the Logo Screen.

    On my HP pressing the Esc key will shift from the Logo to the BIOS POST.

    That being said it appears that your BIOS boot sector was corrupted somehow.

    A possible try would be to unplug the computer for a few minutes & try try again.

    Otherwise what HP disks do you have? Also what is the exact HP model?

    If I hit the ESC key on boot up I get " select bbpt device"
    1= CW058D ATAPI CD-R-RW
    2= HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8160B
    3=Floppy
    4=SCSI Device

    The pc is a HP Pavillion 522N
