CDRW problem with XP
Hi
my pc self destructed a few days ago, had to replace power unit
motherboard and chip ..so used cheap stuff for now, installed xp
clean and now i have a wierd problem
when i boot up the CD drive is detected but if i put a cd in it
just freezes up untill i eject the cd. Ive tried deleting 2nd ide channel
and cdrw and reinstalling, checked cables etc, tried updating firmware for
the cdrw and have just about
run out of ideas, anyone got any clues what i can try?.
In bios both IDE channels are auto, there are no problems showing
in device manager
Wierdest thing is it will read audio cd's, but not any of the data cd's
Have spent a fortune fixing the machine so dont want to waste money onan unneeded cdrw, any suggestions would be hugely appreciated
Thanks
Elle

Seems like you covered the basic troubleshooting. However I am confused when you say:
"if i put a cd in it just freezes up untill i eject the cd."
Then you say:
"it will read audio cd's, but not any of the data cd's"
Are you saying audio cd's don't freeze but data cd's do?
Does this freeze happen before you do anything? Just by inserting a disk?
Try changing your settings for auto-play: rt. click the drive under My Computer & then click Properties & check Auto-Play. Set to Take No Action.
