BLUE SCREEN ERROR on WINDOWS XP

I'm turned off the "automatically shutdown" option in the advanced section in the "start-up and recovery" to see what's been causing the error.

while I was playing Hitman 2: Silent Assasin, the blue screen just popped up and ruined the progress of my game. (damn)

here's what the blue screen said...

Does this happen repeatedly? If so: only during games?

smwdm.sys is an audio driver. Do you have a sound card?

If so: check it's status in the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

If you want more details on the memory dump:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

yes, my sound card is built-in. it's a VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller on Soundmax driver. I checked the device manager. nothing is in conflict , everything is in place and the drivers I install came with the motherboard ASUS A7V8X-X (www.asus.com / keyword: A7V8X-X) software bundle.

***it happened AFTER I installed the game (haven't opened the game yet). and WHILE I was playing the game (hitman 2: silent assasin)...

***but when I play other games, nba live 2005, fifa 2005 and et cetera, it goes on as long as I want.

Is this the driver you installed?

SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3663 WHQL driver for Windows 98SE,ME,2000,XP

    http://support.asus.com/download/dow...&model=A7V8X-X

    Also just to clarify:

This issue started after the installation of a game?

Don't know what a system restore might have here but maybe worth a try.

Also getting your dump log might help.
