    Bad_pool_header

Last night my pc suddenly started making a high pitched alarm type noise from out of the earphones. (Good job I had earphones on or it would have woke the whole street up.) Then it said dumping physical memory. The blue screen came up with BAD_POOL_HEADER STOP: 0x000000019 etc.... I rebooted and it came up with STOP: 0x0000007E etc...
For the last 3 months I always get the last stop message, I can never boot without the floppy boot disk. (I couldn't find the disk last night seeing as I had packed it ready for moving house)
I rooted through all the boxes and found it today and it booted ok. I couldn't find a dump log only one from about 4 months ago.
The first error message isn't the one that bothers me, I am used to those sorts of things happening. I just need to know what is stopping my pc booting up without the floppy disk. It gets as far as starting to load windows then just before it gets to the welcome screen it brings up the blue screen

    Thanks in advance.

    i found this:
Did you install Service Pack 2? Are you now suffering from the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)?. Here is the solution. I have spent 4 days hunting down the cause of my machine crashing and have finally cracked it. Maybe other people have a different cause than mine so my solution may not work for everyone.

After installing SP2 I suffered many crashes. In particular the Screen would turn blue and display a message starting "Bad_Pool_Header". And ending with STOP: 0X000000019....

Then my four day hunt for the cause started.

    BSOD Solution
Basically I found two causes of the BSOD.
Cause 1: Corrupted file or folder.
    Cause 2: Microsoft Indexing Service

Possibly these two causes are linked.

    Solution for Cause 1
Onen up Explore (right click the start button), and expand your directory tree, starting from the C: drive. Click on each folder in turn and see if any cause the BSOD to appear. If so, reboot, and simply attempt to copy the folder, and then delete it.

    Solution for Cause No 2
Switch off Microsoft's indexing service. You can do this by clicking the start button, select "Run", then type "msconfig", then select the "Services" TAB, scroll down to the Indexing Service and Switch it off. Reboot your computer, and good luck - maybe it will work, It solved the problem for me.

At first I thought I must have a third party software or hardware conflicting with SP2, but even after I had disconnected the internet, switched off all items in the startup TAB of msconfig, was still getting the BSOD. I tried surface scans, chkdsk, scan disk etc all to no avail. I tried defragmenting the disk, but the frequent crashes may have made things worse.

I discovered the computer was now crashing after about 7.5 minutes of being switched on. It did not matter whether anyone logged in or not.

Finally I went to msconfig (Start Run, MSCONFIG) and switched off "process System.ini files, Load System files, Load Startup Items. And the comuter stopped crashing. So then I added the item back one by one until I discovered the Microsoft Corporation Indexing Service which was causing the crash. I switched it off and switched everything else back on and AT LAST...

    also:
    STOP: 0x0000007E
was this the full STOP code or was there more? i found it on microsoft site but with a different message: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330182&sd=RMVP

and here is a general search:

I have had service pack 2 since it first came out so it can't be that. I turned off the Microsoft Indexing Service anyway just incase. The full stop message that I always get when booting up is..
    STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000047, 0x8051D1B8, 0xF9CB59FC, 0xF9CB5A4C)
I googled it but couldn't find any reference to it.
I think the whole pc needs taking to bits and rebuilding, I have never known such a crappy computer. I am tempted to repair xp but I am scared it might make things worse.
    Thanks for your reply.

the 0x0000007E is what i was looking for here is a google search: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...e+Search&meta=

a repair install shouldnt do any harm (it worked for me 5 out of 6 times) i was unlucky last time, i ended up having to do a clean install because it was booting to a blue screen and i couldnt do anything

i dont think it needs re-building, i think microsoft needs fixing lol

have you got a windows xp sp1 disk or 2? if you have an xp service pack 1 disk, i would reccomend you order a sp2 disk from microsoft (if you havnt already got one) because i got loaded with spyware and i had to do a clean install and borrow my friends sp2 disk (after repair install)
That is of course if you want to do a repair install

I have got a SP 1 disk packed away in mothballs somewhere. I will have to order a SP 2 one because I reckon I will have to do a clean install once I have moved house. The only thing you can rely on with this pc is that it will screw up. Nothing works right, IE keeps encountering errors and having to close, so does FF sometimes. I can't use my scanner because it crashes the pc and so does uploading photos from my camera. Spybot says it's creating a restore point before it deletes stuff but 2 hours later it still hasn't finished the job. My speakers are crap, the sound will only come out of one of them. The router keeps cutting off and when it comes back on my pc won't connect and I have to keep disabling the LAN then re enabling it and I only have 6 GB of space left on my harddrive.
I love my pc, I don't know how I would cope with one that does what it's told.

i was looking for a link to order the sp2 disk on microsoft for you but i couldnt find one, when i tried a few months back, it was easy. Let me know if you dont find one, i will send you mine if you want i dont need it now because i have created a win xp/sp2 slipstream (or whatever it's called)

sounds a bit like my aol modem

i think your your hard drive needs sorting out i cleared mine out last week, i am also considering getting more ram (boosting from 256-512mb)

p.s i wont charge you for the disk (obviously)

Thanks. I have just looked on the microsoft site and it looks like they have stopped making the SP2 disks now.
20 GB of stuff on my harddrive is just music. Most of which I never listen to. I am getting some more RAM as well as I only have 256. It might speed the thing up a bit, it's like something out of the stone age. (In fact I have a feeling the harddrive is made out of stone.... the racket it makes)

You can still download SP2 here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

And with this program create your own XP SP2 Disk:

    http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?act...showarticle=49

You might also want to consider flashing your BIOS.

Also run your manufacturers' diagnostic on your hard drive:

i thaught it was just me who couldnt find it!!! lol

i had 15gb (i listened to about 20 songs!!!!!!) and i had to clear my HD

you might want to try downloading sp2 and then creating an xpsp2 disk as jephree sugested, that way, as soon as you do a clean install you will have sp2 on your pc
